Most people think they want a waterproof mascara, used occasionally this can be an ok choice. However, on a regular basis we are using it without knowing the risks associated with that.
👉 A common chemical ingredient you will see in these is, Dimethicone Copoloyl. This is a silicone that gives that super smooth finish. To put it simply Dimethicone in mascara can have a drying effect and could lead to the the eyelashes becoming too dry and worst case; falling out. Thin lashes are already lacking the amount of water content to thicker ones so add Dimethicone and you see some very dehydrated Lashes.
👉 Then, let’s talk parabens:
Think of these as a preservative. Used to extend the shelf life of your products. Parabens can mimic oestrogen which cause endocrine disruptions. So basically parabens could be affecting your hormones. They are also known irritants that can cause rashes, itching and swelling of the eyes.
👉 Petroleum you may say is not in your mascara. That’s because its hiding under a different name. Does Mineral oil sound familiar? They are of huge concern as they can create 1/4 - Dioxane. A substance known to be potentially carcinogenic. It’s also a kidney and neurological toxin.
When added in to your mascara, a product that is designed to stay on for lengthy periods of time, it increases the risk of absorbed nasties through your skin and into your blood stream.

👉 Silk powder will gently coat the lashes. This helps to thicken and build the lashes up like crazy without going clumpy. It preserves the natural moisture levels and enables mascara to feel light as a feather.
👉 Beeswax is used as the water resistant property. This allows the mascara to lengthen and stiffen. It contains a mouldable component to allow for shaping and holding off the eyelashes.
👉 Carnauba wax is a natural thickener which enables a smooth application and a glossy finish. It keeps the lashes pliable, yet solid.
