Let’s take a little walk down memory lane and find out where we truly began…
This journey starts at the time where I had just had my second child. Right from the word go he was so much trickier than my first. He would cry a lot and wouldn’t settle, and we really wanted an answer to what was going on. We thought looking into traditional medicine would help but it only brought us to dead ends. So, our next idea was to look into more holistic approaches.
This is where I began working with integrated health professionals. During this process I was surprised to find out that my own health was far from ideal and actually deteriorating! On one appointment, I was asked by an integrative doctor what I did for a living. When I told him I was a hairdresser, he told me hairdressers and nail technicians are amongst his sickest patients. As soon as he said it, it seemed so bloody obvious! I’m all up in chemicals for hours each day – on my skin and in the air I breathe!
At home we had been trying to live as natural as we could, but there I was undoing all our hard work! I started to research, and to my surprise, couldn’t find anyone offering a cleaner alternative to existing salon products. Surely, I wasn’t the only one trying to find a healthier experience – for the stylist as well as the client.
I quickly realised I was going to have to take matters into my own hands if I wanted to see a change. I set off on the hunt to find a brand that aligned with my beliefs and would want to work with me. I found a lot that proclaimed they were clean but unfortunately, after looking further into them it was clear that this was not always the case. My breakthrough came when I had my first phone call with Organic Colour Systems. From the first time I spoke with them I was hooked. They are such an honest and transparent company, and there is no room for misinterpretation – a breath of fresh air after all the research I had done with other companies!
So, with Organic Colour Systems on board, I was able to run my salon and provide my clients with clean and safe products, hand-picked by me. And we are still doing that today! My goal now is to make Clarity Essential Wellness your one stop shop for all your hair, beauty and wellness needs. Now, a quick flashback to the beginning, when we first set up Clarity Hair Design. My clients will be able to tell you, I used to be certain that it would only ever be me working in the salon. Now, fast forward 3.5 years and we are Clarity Essential Wellness, made up of two qualified hairstylist, two beauty therapists and two apprentices! I have also found other brands that follow my ethos and are incorporating them into my salon. I’ve even gone and trained to become a Colonic Hydrotherapist (If you don’t know what this is, go look it up, it will blow your mind!)
I hope in the future I can add to this story as I continue to grow and learn and make Clarity Essential Wellness even better. Helping my clients on their health journeys is what motivates me, and I’m always blown away by how amazing they are.
